04 Apr Communion Experience
Our church makes Communion available as part of our ministry time each and every week yet, once a month, we highlight theLord’s Table, involving as many folks as possible. Knowing the power of involving the whole person, we recently invited our folks to stand, bow their heads, close their eyes and extend their arms, assuming what is traditionally known as a cruciform position. I, then, read a portion of the Passion story from Matthew. The reading lasted about four minutes, long enough for their arms to begin to feel heavy, helping them identify with and experience, in a small way, the sufferings of Christ. It had a profound effect. Nearly everyone participated and folks were deeply touched.
NOTE: Be careful as you invite those who are comfortable, able and feel led to participate that you give everyone else permission to participate as they are led or able.
